History of Black Friday Shopping at Best Buy

!±8± History of Black Friday Shopping at Best Buy

The "in the black" notion of the notorious shopping day of "Black Friday" has led retailers to roll out some pretty compelling sales promotions over the years, with electronics stores leading the charge in recent years as the world transitions into the Digital Age.

Luckily for Best Buy, that means droves of people flooding into their store in the early hours of Black Friday as they continue to advertise major price cuts on top electronics products. A whopping 52 percent of people surveyed last year said they planned to spend their money at an electronics store, and another 36 percent saying that video games had a strong presence on their shopping list. As such, Best Buy's 2010 sales ad was loaded with some pretty serious deals, including savings on low-end televisions like a 15-inch LCD for , and equally impressive cuts on giant televisions like the 00 Samsung 55-inch HDTV clearly meant for only the best Super Bowl parties. Other notable offerings included a 0 netbook from Compaq, free gift cards with the purchase of 8GB iPod Touch's (priced at 9), video game console bundles and Dyson vacuum cleaners priced with a 0 discount.

Ironically, the electronics retailer has not yet offered free online shipping like its competitors have opted to, which may be one thing to keep an eye out for as Best Buy's Black Friday 2011 announcements near. The electronics store has also been known to offer various package bundles with video game systems and televisions, yet another selection of items to be aware of for this year's Black Friday. And the biggest question, of course, is whether Best Buy will discount any of its tablets, which appear to be the hot new electronic item going into the holiday season. You may not find any iPads significantly discounted (retailers are prohibited from discounting Apple products), but its competitors will surely be more willing to slash the prices of their digital tablets in order to further cut into Apple's only growing market presence. Similarly, look out for similar reductions on Best Buy's non-iPhone mobile phones - smart phones in particular.

Best Buy has also made strong attempts in the past few years with getting ahead in the customer service arena during Black Friday - something many retailers simply claim defeat on going into the crowd-heavy day. The company's "Voice of the Customer Through the Employee" program gives blue-shirt Best Buy employees the ability to automatically register customer feedback and send someone your way to fix a problem within only 20 seconds, making the Black Friday experience that much more bearable.
